How We Track
Garmin Collars
Our hikes are possible through the use of Garmin E-Collars. These collars are made for hunting, as they have the ability to track and train large groups of dogs. Pup Hiking has given them a new and exciting use to allow dogs to safely roam off leash while we maintain communication and monitor their location.
Radius
The Garmin collars have a 3 mile radius through trees and mountains, and can go up to 9 miles in clear, flat areas. They have a 2.5 second refresh rate, so we know exactly where each dog is at all times. Our receiver shows a map with the locations of all the dogs, as well as their distance in yards.
Capabilities
The collars have a battery life up to 5 days, so we can rely on them for a long time in case of any emergency. They are also completely waterproof, allowing the dogs to play all they want in the rivers and snow. The training features like shock, tone, and vibration can be adjusted for each individual dog to meet their needs.
